Dalhousie

Dalhousie is a picturesque hill town located in western Himachal Pradesh. It is noted for age old charm and holds enduring echoes of the “Raj”. This hill town covers an area of about 14 square kilometers and is built on five beautiful hills namely Tehra, Balun, Kathlog, Bakrota and Potreyn. It derives its name after the British Governor – General of the 19th Century. This beautiful hill town is surrounded by thick-wooded forests for pines, oaks, deodars and flowering rhododendron. The city also boasts magnificent colonial houses including some intricate churches. The ambiance and surrounding of the city are pleasant. The city offers spectacular views of snow-clad mountain peaks of Dhauladhar mountain ranges

Places to Visit in Dalhousie
Churches : Dalhousie is home to four beautiful churches. They are St Patrick’s Church, St Andrew Church, St Francis Church and St John Church.Dalhousie

Panchpula : It is a postcard-perfect location in Dalhousie. It is the place where a stream feeds a series of pools. Sardar Ajit Singh memorial monument is situated here.

Subhash Baoli : It was associated with freedom fighter Subhash Chandra Bose. It was the place where Bose spend a lot of time in 1937. It is surrounded by beautiful trees.

Bara Pathar : There is a small temple amidst a thick forest.

Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary : It is home to the 'ghoral' and Himalayan black bear.

Himachal Industry Emporium : It has a collection of woolen shawls, Tibetan carpets, Tibetan handicrafts, bags, purses, and other memorabilia.

How to Reach Dalhousie
By Air : Dalhousie has no airport. Travellers can end their air travel at Delhi, Shimla or Chandigarh. Dalhousie is well-connected by roads from Delhi, Shimla and Chandigarh.

By Train : The nearest Railway Station is at Pathankot. Tourists can hire taxis or buses, available at regular intervals, from Pathankot to Dalhousie.

By Road : By Road Dalhousie is well-connected with cities like Chamba, Chandigarh, Shimla, Delhi, etc.

Shopping
Located on Thandi Sarak, the Himachal Handloom Industry Emporium has a collection of woolden shawls. Made to order Tibetan carpets can be procured from the Tibetan Handicrafts Centre.
